Event Information & Rules 

Event Information

1. To attend the event is completely free; everyone is encouraged to come! Please bring your spouses, parents, siblings, and friends to enjoy the night!
2. Food and drinks are not allowed on the field or court;
3. Arrive at 10:30 PM with your whole team, everyone needs to sign the waiver. Solo's will have their team announced once they all arrive. Games will start at 10:45 PM sharp.
4. Don't interrupt or go on the field / court before 10 PM, there are other teams playing and we don't want to disturb them.
5. Zero tolerance policy for cursing and fighting, any teams or individuals that do so will be kicked out and banned from any future Vortex Sports events.
6. In order to participate in the sport tournament, you would need to register and pay. (Limited Spots).

Basketball rules

  1. 5 vs. 5 outdoor basketball 
  2. Scorings are 1's and 2's
  3. Substitutes are allowed, but they will need to register and pay as well.
  4. Five games guaranteed, more guaranteed games might be added. 10 minutes per game or first to 13. During the tournament, if a game is tied, one minute of extra time will be added,  if the minute expires and it's a tied game who ever scores the last possession wins.​
  5. Teams are allowed 5 fouls, if teams exceed 5 fouls, then 1 free throw and the possession is given to the opposing team 
  6. 24 second shot clock will be enforced if it's a one possession game in the last 90 seconds
  7. The final will be 12 minutes per game.
  8. Referee's will be present to ensure a fair game
  9. Four to five  games will be "league games"  which are guaranteed. Once everyone has played, each team will be ranked by their points (2 points per win, 1 point per draw, 0 for a loss).  Once everyone is ranked, the tournament will start, and it will be single elimination. If there are more then 8 teams then top 8 teams proceed, if less then 8 teams then everyone makes play offs
  10. If a player curses, their team will lose possession. If it happens a second time from the same team, 2 points  will be added to the opposing team. If it happens a third time, the opposing team will automatically win, regardless of the score.
  11. In case of any fights, the team will be disqualified from the tournament and banned from any future Vortex Sports events.​

Flag Football  Rules

  1. 7 vs. 7 on a grass field split in half 55 x 65 yards, with 2 games running simultaneously parallel to each other. 8 teams in total.
  2. Games will be 15 minutes, 4 games guaranteed, everyone makes playoffs. Once Playoffs start it will be single elimination. 
  3. The play clock is 10 seconds and will be enforced.
  4. Each team is allotted two (15 sec) time-outs, Time outs do not carry over.
  5. Within 2 minutes, if the team is down by a single possession game then the clock will stop. The clock will not run on Extra Point plays after TD’s. (This Rule only applies in playoffs)
  6. Games can not end on a defensive penalty. 
  7. Games that end regulation in a tie, there will be toin coss to decide on a poessison, whoever scores a touchdown first wins 
  8. If defense gets an interception, they can’t return for a touch down, their will just be a change of possession
  9. Starting position will be at the 5 yard line, between the goal line and 5 yard cone
  10. No offensive players are allowed to be closer than 5 yards from the sideline before the snap
  11. The offense will have four downs to advance the ball to the next Blue or Orange cone for a new set of downs
  12. Each TD is 6 points, 1 point conversion is from 5 yards, 2 point conversion for 10 yards.
  13. There could be offensive blockers, defense rusher has to be 5 yards away from the QB and count up to 5 mississippi before they rush. The referee will do the countdown. No grabbing of any sort will be allowed. 1 Blitz will be allowed per defensive possession 
  14. The Quarterback is the only player that can receive the snap, must be standing directly behind the center and also must be at least two yards behind the center.
  15. The spot of the ball is where calls are made - i.e. where the ball is when the flag is pulled (not where the flag is when the flag is pulled). 
  16. If a player is standing on, or just inside the goal line, catches a pass, and has their flag pulled, the play will only be called a Touchdown IF AND ONLY IF the ball has broken the plane of the goal line.
  17. Stripping or swatting a ball that a ball carrier has possession of is a penalty.
  18. Flag guarding, or diving, by the person with possession of the ball will result in a penalty.
  19. Snaps that are fumbled are dead balls. 
  20. Offense should be within 5 yards of the QB, defense should be X yards or more of the line of scrimmage 
  21. 1 run is allowed per possession, 1 blitz is allowed per possession. 
  22. Offense will have 4 downs to either score or get to the half way line which will give them another 4 downs. 
  23. Jumping to avoid a flag pull & hurdling over an opponent is illegal! Guarding the flag will result in a 5 yard loss from the spot of the foul. Hurdling over an opponent is illegal and will result in a 5 yard loss from the spot of the foul.
  24. Other penalties will result in either lost of down if offense, or replay of the same down to offense if penalty committed by defense
  25. If 2 penalties are committed back to back by defense then 5 yards penalty for offense, if that results in a touchdown or first down, then it will count
  26. The two minute warning will be played college rules style. The clock will stop on any incomplete passes, runs out of bounds, a score, a turnover and any time outs. (This will only be applied in play offs AND if it's a 1 possession game)
  27. Safeties are worth 2 points.​
  28. Each half will begin by spotting the ball on the 5-yard line 
  29. The QB may only run across the line of scrimmage if they are being blitzed or rushed after the ref’s count. (The defensive player must break the line of scrimmage
  30. If the Fumble occurs when the ball is traveling backwards, the ball will be dead and spotted where the ball hits the ground.
  31. Any Backward fumble that has not yet touched the ground is a live ball.
  32. The Blitzing player(s) must wait until the Quarterback has touched the ball before they can cross the line of scrimmage on a Blitz. ​

Soccer Rules

  1. 6 vs. 6 on a turf field split in half, with 2 games running simultaneously parallel to each other.
  2. Substitutes are allowed, but they will need to register and pay as well.
  3. Five games guaranteed, 10 minutes per game. During the tournament, if a game is tied, one minute of extra time will be added. If the game is still tied after extra time, it will go to a penalty shootout.
  4. The final will be 12 minutes per game.
  5. Referee's will be present to ensure a fair game
  6. Four games will be "league games." Once everyone has played, each team will be ranked by their points (2 points per win, 1 point per draw, 0 for a loss).  Once everyone is ranked, the tournament will start, and it will be single elimination. The team that is ranked 9th and 10th will not proceed forward
  7. If a player curses, their team will lose possession. If it happens a second time from the same team, 1 goal will be added to the opposing team. If it happens a third time, the opposing team will automatically win, regardless of the score.
  8. In case of any fights, the team will be disqualified from the tournament and banned from any future Vortex Sports events.​​

Tennis Rules

  1.  8-12 games guaranteed depending on how many teams participate Each team will be ranked from their wins and losses. 
  2. Free agents will be paired with other free agents
  3. Games will be played in doubles
  4. Once everyone has played, each team will be ranked by their points (2 points per win, 1 point per draw, 0 for a loss).  Once everyone is ranked, the tournament will start, and it will be single elimination. If there are more then 8 teams then top 8 teams proceed, if less then 8 teams then everyone makes play offs​
  5. Prizes for the winning team!

Pickleball Rules

  1. 15 minute game or up to 11 points. Only the serving team can score points. Have to win by 2 points. If time runs out play team with the most points win.
  2. ​Once everyone has played, each team will be ranked by their points (2 points per win, 1 point per draw, 0 for a loss).  Once everyone is ranked, the tournament will start, and it will be single elimination. If there are more then 8 teams then top 8 teams proceed, if less then 8 teams then everyone makes play offs
  3. The serve must be hit underhand and contact must be made below the waist
  4. The server must serve diagonally to the opponent's service court.
  5. The serve is not allowed to touch the non-volley zone (kitchen) lines
  6. Each team must let the ball bounce once on their side before volleying it.
  7. After the ball has bounced once on each side, both teams can either volley the ball or let it bounce before hitting it.
  8. Players cannot volley the ball while standing inside the non-volley zone, also known as the kitchen.
  9. Players can enter the kitchen to play a ball that has bounced.
  10. If a player's momentum carries them into the kitchen after hitting the ball, it is not considered a fault. 
  11. A fault occurs when a player fails to hit the ball into the opponent's court, hits the ball out of bounds, or violates other rules (e.g., stepping into the kitchen while volleying).
  12. When a fault occurs, the opposing team earns a point and the serve.
  13. ​The serving team continues to serve until they commit a fault, at which point the serve passes to the opposing team.
